As we traverse the inevitable journey of ageing, both our physical and mental capacities may wane. The challenge is exacerbated when we struggle to care for ourselves, hindering the pursuit of longer and more fulfilling lives.
Regrettably, in our world today, many in the ageing population lack the means or fortune to access essential care, leading to a life marked by hardship. Social exclusion also becomes another harsh reality, fostering a breeding ground for depression and a rapid decline in mental health. However, even those fortunate enough to reside in elderly care facilities often face abuse from those entrusted with their well-being.
In response to these pressing challenges, the UN General Assembly championed the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) in 2020. This visionary initiative pledges a decade of concerted efforts to uplift the well-being of older individuals, acknowledging their rights and propelling them to the forefront of transformative initiatives.
Recognizing the urgency of this mission, GCVSI has devised strategic interventions aimed at fostering a more accessible, liberating, and dignified life for the elderly. Because every individual, regardless of age, deserves not just to survive but to thrive in their later years.
